Eating Emma

My goal for Emma is for her to like a wide variety of foods at a very early age. Onions? Yes. Spicy foods? Yes. Steak Tartare? Yes. Sashimi? Double yes! Here’s her training so far:

Momma’s Milk:

Birthday cake

Rice cereal

Hey, you owe me big time…. I just have to taste that apple butter. My mom, Katelyn’s great grandma use to make it. However, I rememer her cooking it in the oven in a big roaster and she didn’t put any bourbon in it. Great to see Emma being a little helper. And that pie looked wonderful. I believe a pie is only as good as the crust is. As soon as I have my two hands back I am going to try that crust recipe. Love you kids

Nana Rena: We are so excited to get started canning (blog post soon to come) but we need to spend some time learning from you. After all someone needs to take over when you can’t do it anymore! We’ve yet to perfect the apple butter, but we will bring a jar for you next time we see you. Just a note: we try to incorporate booze in most everything we cook. it improves the flavor and if not it numbs your taste buds so it really doesn’t matter how awful it might be! 🙂

As for the Apple Pie, I remember making pies with Grandma Margaret and she’d always use lard. I never knew what it was but I remember how delicious her pies were and that perfectly flaky crust. This pie that we made is surely the pie of a Grandma- there are just some things you can’t define any other way.
