No More NUK

Emma only mostly uses her NUK at night and we’ve kept it this way for a while now.  Since some big changes are happening at our house right now [Potty Training, Little Brother Coming, Spring Time, Turning Two, etc.] I thought now would be a good time to get rid of the Nuk for good!  I am very confident it will be an easy transition, just like the move to the toddler bed.  I guess we’ll wait and see.  So far, the first nap was taken without the Nuk and it went pretty well.

Here is a look at what I did:

“SNIP, SNIP!!”

I gave the snipped Nuks to Emma and showed her they were “broken.”  She was concerned and still tried to put them in her mouth.  When she realized they were broken and no longer of use to her she walked over to the garbage and tossed them in.  I pulled one out and washed it up to keep on hand to give to her at nap time or bed time tonight and maybe for the next couple of nights just so she understands it is still available to her if she wants it and that SHE is making the choice not to use it because it is no longer useful or soothing.  We did this at nap time today and she was content without it. Yay!

I must also add that Emma is a smart girl and she knows she doesn’t need those dumb pieces of rubber and plastic she’s just been testing to see how long she can keep you thinking she does 🙂

she recently found two more NUKS in working condition hidden away in a play purse in her toy box. I think she was stashing them away there in case something like this were to happen… and yes, I did feel bad 😦
